It all started with a dream; nothing extraordinary or terrifying, just a reoccurring scenario that played out during his sleep…whether it was a lamp that wouldn’t turn on, or a light that barely pierced the darkness, leaving the world in a shade of grey. Anton hadn’t known then that it was the Twilight World reaching out to him, calling to him. The first sign that he was something more than human…an Other.
Others aren’t people, not really. They look like us, talk like us, and for awhile they are us…but that changes. They’re endowed with supernatural abilities; they absorb magical energy, giving them a longer life span, and abilities that most can’t dream of. They come in different classifications. Vampires, Shape Shifters, Werewolves, Enchantresses, Magicians, and Witches/Warlocks. But all of them are Others. Whether Light or Dark.
All of these are things Anton learned during his initiation. Others are able to enter the Twilight World, a place almost parallel to the one every day people live in. And it’s during that first trip into the land of shadows that the choice is made. Light or Dark, good or evil. The result of a person’s innate tendencies and mood when they first enter the gloom. Light Others are part of the Night Watch, ever keeping an eye on their counterparts. They have little choice in their actions, forced to act for the greater good. Dark Others, members of the Day Watch, are bound by no moral restrictions. They simply act.
Though a mage (and initially told he was low level), Anton initially didn’t prefer field work, instead preferring for a more mundane technical job. To start out, he was placed as the superviser of the Night Watch’s IT department. Events, manipulated by both Watches head, force him to become a full-fledged operative, and realize his true potential. But with this experience also comes a certain level of cynicism towards the cause of Light Others. How can he say they’re any better than their counterparts, when they destroy lives just as thoroughly?
His favorite past time is listening to custom mini-discs, always with the randomized playback feature, using it in the same way that a Taoist might throw stones to gain a rough idea of the future. For example, an ominous song implying upcoming danger. |

Sam remembered all of it; every second that Lucifer had been in control of his body. He remembered watching his own hand strike his brother in his face and being helpless to stop it. He remembered the sick crack sound when Bobby's neck snapped. It wasn't something that time would ever be able to make him forget. Every detail was forever engrained in his memory. Sam Winchester remembered hell; and he wished, more than anything, that he didn't.
The cage was meant to be his eternal prison. Trapped with Lucifer and Michael; it was his burden to make sure they never escaped. Higher beings had different plans. Sam didn't know if it was God or not, and at this point, he didn't care. There was no explanation for why one moment he had been in Lucifer's cage and the next he was back in Lawrence, Kansas. The place where it all started and the place where it was meant to end.
His eyes were adjusting to the dimly lit hotel room; he felt sick to his stomach, could still feel the heat on his skin. The demon blood that Sam had loaded up on in order to fight Lucifer was still pumping through his veins; he could feel it, and the power that came with it. Stumbling across the room Sam made his way to the mirror and peered at his reflection.
It was him…but he didn't feel any more at ease. What if Lucifer was lurking somewhere in his consciousness? Just waiting for a chance to take over. In the past a situation like this would have made Sam go running out to find his brother. And it wasn't that he didn't want to see Dean…he did, but he had made his brother promise to live a normal life. To never try to get him out.
Splashing cold water on his face didn't bring any relief. Staying here wasn't going to solve anything. Instead Sam decided it was time to leave…to try and find some answers. Once he was out of the hotel room he did the only thing he could. "Castiel," he yelled out, arms stretched out at his sides. "Castiel!" If this was God's work, Cas would know. |
